In 2009, my Border Collie Jed was eight years old. He was playing with my 4 year old son, James, on the beach, when our world changed. While chasing seagulls, Jed ruptured several discs in his back. This started a series of major operations over three years, each costing many thousands of dollars.
We were so fortunate to be able to afford his treatment and keep Jed with us. Without funds, the only option for Jed would have been euthanasia.
This tragic experience inspired us to establish Pet Medical Crisis in 2010, supporting pensioners / disadvantaged owners to meet the high cost of veterinary care. Since then we have distributed over $450,000 to 500+ pets and continue to provide a much-needed service to our community.
Jed relied on us to carry his back end in a special sling for 9 years. He passed away on 17 December 2018 after providing us with untold joy, unconditional love and inspiration.
Pet Medical Crisis raises funds to assist with the costs medical intervention for companion pets in Victoria. The pet owner’s inability to fund the care would otherwise result in death or significantly impact quality of life.

Pet Medical Crisis is a registered, not for profit charity.
PMC is reliant on public donations to assist with the costs of medical intervention for companion pets in Victoria where the pet owner’s inability to fund the care would otherwise result in death or significantly impact quality of life.
As our resources are limited we restrict funding to $1,000 per case. It is intended that funding provided is on a 1-off crisis basis, not for ongoing veterinary needs during the pet’s life.
Donations cannot be used for consultations, diagnostics and investigations as this reduces the amount available for treatment and becomes an untenable process.
Not all cases can be approved
Decisions are contractual with the providing vet. Funds are only paid to veterinary clinics by direct transfer to existing bank accounts.
A no-fault waiver exists for all cases where pets may deteriorate or die during or after the application process.
PMC take each scenario on a case by case basis and attempt to create a consistent pattern of assistance for the successful care of pensioner’s pets.
PMC reserve the rights to restrict assistance where abusive, untruthful or unreasonable requests are made of our resources.
